This time of year is one of transition: last year's taxes are coming due and this year's taxes must be planned for. All of that work can get investors thinking about the bigger picture, like their portfolio's asset allocation and their financial planning documents.

To help you prioritize, this edition of the Knowledge Letter helps you get a bead on the 2012 tax picture, reminds you to think of those exotic new bonds you were considering in the context of your whole portfolio, and offers a book review that will help with sucession planning for the family cabin.
